LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – Electric vehicle advocates have now started what they’re calling the national Freedom To Drive Tour, showcasing how they say electric vehicles can offer drivers more freedom.
State representatives Julie Brixie and Angela Witwer were joined by business leaders Tuesday to bring the tour to Lansing.
Organizers say they’re pushing for more driver freedom—which they say means freedom from high gas prices, freedom to breathe easy, freedom to build, and the freedom to save.
Speakers acknowledged that many EV’s may have a higher sticker price, but long-term, they believe electric vehicles are becoming one of the most affordable choices for working families.
They add the transition to EV’s can even add stable jobs to the community.
“EV’s cost less to fuel and to maintain, not to mention they have good paying manufacturing jobs that come with them,” said Witwer. “Michigan has been preparing for this transition to clean vehicles. Already, we’re manufacturing six models of EV’s which has brought in about 34,000 EV jobs.”
An Ingham County commissioner was also present and says the county is in the early stages of adding more charging stations to make it easier for local drivers to make the shift.
